It couldn’t feel pain. Still it was a relief when it stopped, the core of it ripped from its chest: a whittled-down punch-card copy of someone’s respawn data, hundreds of holes painted over with Wite-Out, erasing personality, emotions, memories, until only the bare bones of their skills remained.
There were a lot of them, though, Sniper thought. Easy enough to overlook a card, install it unaltered. Shouldn’t matter, a robot’s a robot, they’re not alive, not like people, just walking, killing slot machines. Hit ‘em right, money comes out, buy a new hat. Shouldn’t matter that one’s a defect, a design error, a… a huddled, shaking, fear-choked robot that thinks it’s Scout. It’s not. Scout’s dead. You know he is, you saw him go down when respawn failed. This is just a machine.
Except… do machines cry?

I want him to be happy with his robots but

Maybe he’s trying to find a way to shut them down. He knows that Spy can sap ‘em and he knows that RED Engie is probably working on the bots too (to shut them down at least) so maybe he’s enjoying his dream but regrets being a traitor.
He’s got to play the part but still find a way to compromise. Keep the robots he loves but turn them against Gray Mann instead and then reunite with the boys.
